Broaching machine

For some time WILKA has been operating with an ultramodern system that broaches different profiles in lock cores for door cylinders of variable lengths. The special feature: profile variants are broached in a single broaching cut, instead of two cuts as was usual before. A weight of 13.5 tonnes and magazine stations for up to 1000 broaching tool parts make this machine the biggest of its kind internationally. The manufactured technology – “Made in Germany” – also offers maximum ease of use.

For Olaf Witte, plant manager at WILKA, the graphical user interface is an asset of the extremely complex machine. “The application data is simply scanned in, while the maintenance workload, in contrast to other machines, is very much lower. We were able to significantly increase productivity using the machine,” Witte states. All the conceivable combination options can be achieved by means of CNC-controlled variation in the operation of the broaching tool parts. Thus almost all of the company’s product range can be manufactured driven by the data and without the need for expensive retrofitting. This has resulted in enormous cost savings for WILKA locking technology.

The system is additionally equipped to automatically monitor tool breakage and wear & tear, thereby minimizing running costs as well. A plausibility check reduces potential operating errors and simplifies internal operations at WILKA. With the new lock core broaching machine, there are also benefits to be had by the expert in locking technology in terms of tool costs, set-up and tooling times and space saving in the production hall.
